Two weeks earlier, romance author Alisha Rai went on a very first date with a guy who, after purchasing her coffee, purchased 2 cake pops … both of which he consumed himself.
Discovering the minute amusing, she chose to share the story on Twitter, never ever anticipating to go viral.

Not only has the tweet considering that resembled nearly half a million times, but her experience became a worldwide debate about dating etiquette.
Many people discovered the anecdote funny and relatable, with some even sharing their own stories of similar situations.

However, there were certainly others who believed the entire debate “seemed odd,” some even calling Alisha “entitled,” a “gold-digger,” or anti-feminist.

Now, Alisha is speaking up and clarifying on #CakePopGate. “The majority of people took it the way I planned … as a joke,” she stated in an exclusive interview with BuzzFeed.
When it comes to going viral, she said she didn’t think she ‘d ever hear “Michael Strahan discussing my dating life for three minutes.” That being said, she made it clear that “there was a truly unfavorable part” of the attention, too.
” I don’t believe you can be a lady on the web and not be bothered,” she said. “So, I have actually experienced individuals sending me nasty things or whatever, but never ever so targeted and all at the same time.”
Really, there is nothing a lady can go viral for that will not result in an avalanche of misogyny, not even a facetious tweet. About dessert etiquette.
” They were flooding my Instagram, my Twittter, my Facebook. They were sending me emails … death hazards and rape dangers. They were screenshotting my body and drawing on it and things.”

She called the experience “traumatic” and “invasive,” and said that she’s “truly anxious about getting on Twitter now.” She ‘d quickly locked her account and ultimately offered her buddy her password so the most activating messages could be erased without her needing to see more of them.
The whole ordeal is coincidentally reminiscent of Alisha’s upcoming novel, Girl Gone Viral, which follows a female who goes into hiding after her personal discussion with a stranger is tweeted and misconstrued to the world.
Of course, the situations aren’t identical since Alisha tweeted about herself and it was accurate. But, she does think social networks has affected dating in a manner where “we begin to see individuals more as characters.”
Ultimately, Alisha stated that she does not regret sending out the tweet and that “had it been a girlfriend who sat down and did that, I would’ve tweeted the specific very same thing.”
