Disney stated last week the opening of its Disneyland amusement park in California would be postponed but continues to move ahead with its July 11 Disney World resuming

Disney’s cast members and stage stars at the business’s theme parks, particularly Disney World in Orlando, are pushing back against plans to reopen next month as the coronavirus pandemic has revealed indications of rising in California and Florida.

Among the chief issues of the actors for Disney World stage efficiencies in Orlando is that Disney has no strategies to evaluate cast members and employees for COVID-19 or offer to test.

Late last week, the Actor’s Equity Association– the U.S. labor union representing about 800 expert stars at Disney World– condemned the Orlando theme park’s choice to move on with its reopening after the company put the kibosh on strategies to reopen its Disneyland amusement park in California. (California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Monday retreated from previous strategies to reopen cinema, performance locations and theme parks in the state and city, and called for the re-closing of bars.)

The union especially objects to the lack of clear COVID-19 screening protocols for entertainers and other park employees– especially those expected to perform on stages without masks. “It is unclear how Walt Disney World can properly approach resuming when coronavirus cases are much even worse in Florida,” Mary McColl, executive director of Actors’ Equity Association, stated in a statement. “For weeks, we have made it clear to Disney that screening is an essential part of maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone, from the guests to the cast. It is deeply troubling that while coronavirus cases in Florida rise, Disney is refusing to provide routine testing to among the few groups of workers in the park who by the very nature of their tasks, can not utilize individual protective devices.”

” Now is the time for Disney to stop briefly, focus on the science and put the safety of their actors and stage managers initially by making regular testing offered,” she continued.

A representative for Disney did not right away return TheWrap’s request for comment.

In spite of a recent surge in brand-new cases and hospitalizations in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis stated recently that he would not roll back or stop strategies for Disney World to start its phased reopening plan. Under the plan, the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom would open on July 11, followed by Epcot and Hollywood Studios on July 15.

Disney’s California and Orlando theme parks have been closed considering that March 14, and as a result, Disney’s parks company took a roughly $1 billion struck to operating income during its newest quarter.

Shanghai Disneyland reopened to the public last month after shutting its doors for roughly 3 months, with a number of brand-new policies in location to implement social distancing and visitor tidiness.

Disney World is preparing to implement similar protocols for guests and workers (called “cast members” in Disney-speak even if they are not onstage performers), needing them to use face masks, submit to temperature level screenings before getting in– in addition to at-home temperature level checks– and follow physical distancing standards. Disney would also briefly cancel all parades, firework shows, character greetings and kids play areas.

Joshua Carranza-Vick, with input from other employees of California’s Disneyland, composed “An Open Letter to the Bobs and Co.” demanding “access to on-site, voluntary COVID-19 testing” for all employees along with “access to on-site, voluntary COVID-19 antibody testing” for the remainder of the pandemic.

They also called for a contact tracing team for the Disneyland resort, extra paid sick leave and guidelines needing any worker “discovered to have entered into contact with a coworker who evaluates favorable for COVID-19 be right away put on a paid fourteen day sick leave to proactively isolate.”

” Every among us has people in our lives who depend upon us, who we are counting down the days until we can see again, who dance through our ideas in our idle moments,” Carranza-Vick composed. “We ask our new hires to think of individuals for whom they are safe for the same factor we advise them that every cast member is accountable for the security and well being of everybody who steps through our park gates, whether guest or fellow cast member.”

Even Disney’s dedication to requiring all guests to use masks has entered into question. The idea of using a mask in public locations, which some states require and the CDC highly suggests, has become a politically polarizing argument in the U.S. despite experts saying it considerably minimizes the risk of spreading out the infection.

In an interview with the Gizmodo website i09, one Disney park staffer attributed Shanghai Disney’s effective reopening to cultural differences.
